A new single from New York City's Lana Del Rey, right in time to close out 2011. By now you are probably familiar with LDR due to the fanatical popularity of her honeyed vocals and indie pop tracks like "Video Games" and "Dt. Mt Dew".
"Off To The Races" is a departure from all that we've heard from Del Rey at this point, a little more mature and dangerous. In an almost conversational manner, Lana banters with herself throughout the five minutes of the track, showcasing her range of vocal style.
I'm digging the funk and attitude she's brought to this new single. It's flirtatiously treading the lines of an indie-hip hop sound, which is executed beautifully. Since she's taken to calling herself a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra," it's about time that she gave us something more in-your-face.
