Why do we like this?
Oh god, Lambchop is back and preparing to release their eleventh album, Mr. M, (their last release was in 2008!) on February 21, 2012. I cannot contain myself! Their feature track, "If Not I'll Just Die," is killing me it's so delightful.
I took one listen to this track and they had me at the opening line: "Don't know what the fuck they talk about." Lambchop is fearless and elegant in their execution, setting themselves apart from the small amount of other bands trying to conquer this elusive genre. Sure, they're considered experimental, but this song is just pure class.
When listening to "If Not I'll Just Die," I suddenly felt the need to have a scotch and cigarette. I've never even had the former, and I'm allergic to the latter, but the urge consumes me! Lambchop can do that you, guys!
This alt-country orchestra has drenched this track in strings of all sorts, sweetly flowing and swirling throughout the entire song while the easy going jazz beat guides the way. The vocals are heart-wrenching and truly raw. I'll be impatiently waiting for the release of Mr. M, which is dedicated to their late singer/songwriter Vic Chestnutt. For now, curl up by the fire and let "If Not I'll Just Die" swoon you into bliss.
