Chicago band Lala Lala makes tenderness into a sound on their recent collaboration with WHY?’s Yoni Wolf. Lala Lala’s Lillie West has been a “super fan” of WHY? for years and the pureness rings throughout “Siren 042.”
"There was a siren ringing in my head,” West sings, “But I wasn't listening, so I did what I did." Big drums, shimmery guitars, and West and Wolf’s voices weaving in and out all create the sound of a reflective and painful-but-cathartic meditation. This single follows Lala Lala’s late 2018 release, The Lamb, and mirrors the album’s powerful combination of sharp lyricism and catchy vocals.
The single, along with their new music video, plays out like a scene near the end of a movie -- it’s what the pain of looking back looks like in slow motion.
