Why do we like this?
This is definitely one of the more-unique songs I've featured on Indie Shuffle in a long time, but I was drawn to it by the fact that Arcade Fire's Win Buttler and Regine Chassagne feature on the song.
First up, who is Lakou Mizik? Well, I may as well just pull this quote from their website:
Lakou Mizik is a powerhouse collective of Haitian roots music with a soulful energy and a mix of styles that feels mystical and familiar at the same time. In the wake of Haiti’s devastating earthquake the band came together to show the world that their country was much more than the sum of headlines that were being shot around the globe.
Right, now that we've got that aside, what's going on with this song? Turns out it's set to be included on an album called HaitiaNola, which as you may have guessed, explores the connection between Haiti and New Orleans. It's being produced by Eric Heigle (Lost Bayou Ramblers, Arcade Fire, The Soul Rebels), a clear demonstration of the band's allure to a broader audience outside of Haiti.
Hope y'all enjoy!
