Kùcka (coo-ch-ka) sure is an interesting new addition to the Perth music scene. Her new single "Divinity" delicately tiptoes between electronic and pop, all the while omitting something strange -- although I can't put my finger on what it is.
The track doesn't vary greatly, but it's far from boring or annoyingly repetitive. There's so much going on within each layer that's it's mesmerizing, nearly hypnotic.
The airy vocals are almost childlike in their angelic lilt, but I can't help but find myself wondering what's going on behind those lyrics.
The vocal harmonies and the endlessly moving synth scales are standout layers for me on this one. Technically, the synth trickles reminds me of something along the lines of Tipper (but not as trippy), while the vocals are almost Die Antwoord-level helium high.
The subtle layers really work well together to create a haunting atmosphere throughout. Really keen for Kucka's EP, dropping early 2015.
