Why do we like this?
Another modern throwback from The MadTech crew.
This one comes from Irish-born, Manchester-based producer Krystal Klear and has all the moxie of late 80s/early 90s house. "My Love Is Burning" is the B-side to "More Attention (Ft. Jenna G)" and it is indeed a perfect partner -- both tracks are easy, straight-forward, and fit for the dance floor.
The infamous Pablo Picasso quote comes to mind, "Good artists copy, great artists steal." The key, I suppose, is really being intentional with what we steal. To steal the essence of a great piece or period of work, adopt those principles as one's own, and then expand on that is a talent far exceeding creating a mere carbon copy.
Krystal Klear makes it abundantly obvious that he owes his style to the best parts of classic house, while managing to create his own voice and his own flavor within that range. In the face of modern music, constantly searching for the next best thing, I find his productions refreshing and a good reminder that backwards is sometimes the best way to move forward.
