21-year-old Chris McClenney, of LA collective Soulection, is young. But the touch he gives to already hot tracks that walk the line between smart pop music and unfiltered dance music speaks to a maturity beyond his years.
There is a blend of soul, funk, and even jazz in the well choreographed drops and turns in this remix of Kolaj’s track of “100 Degrees (featuring Quinn XCII)” that bring this song to another level. Summer of 2016 might be over, but this track still has me dancing.
Chris McClenney is originally out of Baltimore, MD, but has since moved to NYC. He has been working with Soulection for a minute now, and is on the verge of releasing more infectious dance music. He credits his influence to artists like Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo, and the Roots. These influences clearly inform the monstrous bass line on this reworking of “100 Degrees” that bounces with purpose alongside the blip of crisp synths and the vocals of Quinn XCII.
Be on the lookout for more from Chris McClenney in the near future.
