Why do we like this?
"Dragon Drop" does just that -- it slings you within a centrifuge of cascading influences discernible only in nebulous moments of clear separation. After the first slowed sample, a Kodiak comparison with co-conspirators like Giraffage or xxyyxx quickly becomes moot. This is a witchy, frantic compendium that vacillates between tight control and a swirling, absolute release -- one that shatters as much as liberates.
Much press is being given to the Eliphino rework of this track which renders it a little more dance floor-ready, even with a slowly churning build. The bass quickly dispenses any notion that things will continue at that pace.
The accompanying image only reinforces the skewed, almost psychedelic whirlwind you willfully subject yourself to. Kodiak's twitter bio reads simply "fantasy horrorcore" and you know what? That's not wrong.
I prefer the original, but both songs are prime for a Friday night freakout.
