Klue is Gabriel Clouston, a Sydney-based singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer. "Hiding" is his his latest - and it is glorious.
I found the atmosphere of this track really interesting, as there are so many drastic changes while it builds up and down in waves. Slowly layering the rhythm and vocals, there's an intriguing sparsity that comes back throughout the song's breakdowns. The peak of each wave is a funky, brass-infused vibe, with punchy bass, jungle percussion, and some wicked saxophone work.
The breakdown phrases are my favorite moments. It's such an unusual sound - to have an atmosphere that feels like it should be chock full of bright brass and huge rhythms, but instead, we're met with big gaps that really accentuate the leftover layers.
All in all, it's a really cool, catchy track that's equally tailored to the dance floor and the radio. Keep an eye out for more Klue in the coming months.
