We’ve been following Melbourne duo Kllo for a while here on Indie Shuffle and for a very good reason – they’re great. Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam have been producing their brand of danceable downtempo for a few years now and with their debut album Backwater scheduled for release in October, it’s going to be a big few months for Kllo.
Coming off the back of a huge world tour and a standout Boiler Room set, Backwater arrives as a refined, coming-of-age account; 'It’s the first time we hadn’t felt like kids anymore,' says Kaul. 'We were really able to dive in deeper and bring out a lot more of us into the music.' With a sound well beyond their years, “Downfall” characterises an ephemeral catharsis; it exists only as current, letting present merge with past.
Blackwater is due for release on October 20.
