The last two times I've written about female rappers, I've received a little negative feedback from the Indie Shuffle crowd. One kind reader even alerted me to the fact that I shouldn't be allowed to write for the site. Ahh... the joys of a music writer.
Now, before I cry myself to sleep tonight, I thought I'd give it one last shot -- so here is the latest from Brooklyn residing Kitty, "Barbie Jeep." Formerly known as Kitty Pryde, the 19-year-old is a quirky mix of Kate Nash/Lily Allen style lyrics, Uffie's playful delivery, and Danny Brown's humorous take on the world.
"Barbie Jeep" finds Kitty hooking up with current boyfriend and producer Hot Sugar for
Adult Swim's new series of downloadable singles. Kitty's cute as button vocals suit Hot Sugar's innovative and off-center production well. Her raps about dancing with someone who turns you off are easily relatable, while references to Harry Potter and popular slang (
hoover hands anyone?) speak to my inner teenager. I look forward to your thoughts.
