Melbourne's Kite Club is a five-piece band known for their romantic indie pop songwriting. Originally kicking off in 2010 with the release of their debut EP (the Pitchfork-lauded
Estorica), the current line-up led by Nicholas Futcher came together last year and have just put out their first single together.
"Jupiter Smiling" is a vibrant, sunny record which is perfectly summed up by the band who refer to themselves as making "positive, euphoric pop." Recorded with Jean-Paul Fung (who we seem to write about a lot!), it's got a bit of early 90s nostalgia mixed with a modern feel. Sitting here listening to it on a rainy Sydney day, I can't help but smile.
If you're in the mood for a track to add to your summer roadtrip mixtape, you won't get much better.
