Why do we like this?
Well, summer is nearing its end, and according to Vice Media's Noisey.com, we have yet to unanimously embrace a summer "anthem." It's hard to believe in a year of fist pumps, bass womps, Psy proliferation, Miley embracing the hairstyles of Brigitte Nielsen, cyclical Gaga regurgitations, a new Hova record, a new Yeezy record, emergence of Kendrick Lamar, and top 40 EDM, that we have yet to find our anthem. I think the music community has overlooked the Danish trio The Kissaway Trail's "The Springsteen Implosion," or at least I have.
"The Springsteen Implosion" is the second single off their third record Breach, which was released August 20 on Yep Roc Records. The song is a breezy indie pop jaunt that makes this listener want to jump in a car and head out on that long-delayed Kerouacian summer road trip. The song has that pop drift that is direct yet listless, and the hook "yes, it's you that I adore" followed by a haunting transition of keys with the lyrics "it's just a reverie" is beyond infectious. One listen, and you'll want more.
The Kissaway Trail are no longer a quintet due to internal disagreements and artistic maturation, ultimately shrinking into a trio. Nevertheless, the richness of their sound is still present and it wouldn't surprise me if "The Springsteen Implosion" becomes our Indian summer jam.
