Why do we like this?
Probably my most reviewed artist (see!), you could say I have a bit of a soft spot for young Sydney producer Kilter (Ned East). It's been great to see his career grow over the past year or so -- first signing to Ministry of Sound affiliated label etcetc, then teeing up a number of international support slots and dropping some of the better remixes 2013 has seen.
With his new EP not far off, we've just been given the first taste of the release, a collaboration with London duo YOUTH, "Hold Me." Again, we're treated to Kilter's unique ability to mould his hip-hop/beat background with tropical, R&B-infused rhythms to create a club-friendly track that people at home can also enjoy. Production-wise, it's spot on -- accessible without being at all boring or safe.
Fellow Sydney-sider Flume recently named Kilter as one of the best Australian producers, a statement indeed given the quality our electronic community is currently producing. Kilter is here to stay; don't say I didn't warn you.
