The first time my playlist shuffled to Columbus, Ohio's Kid Runner, I was so affected by their music I had to drop what I was doing, restart the song, and honor them my full attention.
It was love at first listen. I hopped online hoping to uncover every nugget of information I could find on the band, but I couldn't find enough. So I e-mailed them to satisfy my insane curiosity. Here's what I know:
Andy Lizon (lead vocals), Fran Litterski (vocals/synths/bells) and Kurt Keaner (guitar/synths) met while attending Capital University and decided to start creating beautiful sounds together. Scott Griffin (bass/synths) and Bob Heigel (drums) were introduced to the trio through mutual friends, and Kid Runner was born.
The band's first self-titled EP was released in January. Their track "Move" (also required listening) has already been featured in a Repreve commercial that aired during the X Games. Kid Runner is currently in the process of working on their first full-length album, which should hit your ears this August. Fingers crossed.
I've been overdosing on "Flash Fashion" for days. It's a truly beautiful song. Lizon's voice in the line "you've got me so tied down" is perfection. I can see the words falling.
Kid Runner is young -- I'm talking right-out-of-the-garage new. But their mastery of synths, lyrics and restraint is unbelievably impressive. I can't fathom all that's in store for these five musicians, but I'm excited to hear it unfold. Their future is blindingly bright.
