They're all mixed up, but that's not bad. Kero Kero Bonito is a London-based trio that met over a bulletin board over a mutual love for music. The trio ending up producing quirky and high energetic rap. The production sounds like a throwback to the high art-pop music that Japan was pushing out a decade ago with the likes of Cibbo Matto and Pizzacato Five
Their newest track, "Build Up," is no different. Squirmy little beats jump up and down, hyper happy effects swirl throughout, while MC Sarah sings in a combination of English and Japanese. It's all quite surreal to hear coming from one song. But they did it.
And as simple as the track sounds, it also sounds futuristic as they’re able smash all of the sounds together. It's definitely something new and refreshing for Western ears to experience.
