KennyHoopla has had an eventful year. Between releasing an EP with Travis Barker, touring with blink-182, and announcing his own North American headline tour, KennyHoopla is keeping busy with grand ventures. His latest release “keep a window open//” features hazy vocals and post-punk tendencies. The punchy drum machine, woozy guitars, and prominent bassline highlight Hooplas’ ability to switch from high-energy pop-punk tracks to melancholic post-punk classics.
KennyHoopla is Ohio born musician, Kenneth La’ron. Uploading songs onto SoundCloud since 2016, La’ron has been able to gather a fan base and open for punk legends such as Green Day, Limp Bizkit, and blink-182.
While the arrangement is simple, the track remains interesting with dreamy production and compelling lyricism. “keep a window open//” invites listeners to a world of melancholy as Hoopla sings “laughin' at my own jokes 'cause I'm lonely when I'm not alone.” The essence of loneliness is captured along with nostalgia. It evokes a yearning for warmer sentiments as fall begins to close the curtain on summer.
Offering us a taste of future releases, “keep a window open//” adds anticipation to KennyHoopla’s upcoming fall 2023 headline tour with support from Groupthink.
