Singer, composer and instrumentalist Kenneth Whalum's latest track is a heartbreaking look at police brutally and the plight of black American's in the current racist climate engulfing the country.
There's a sadness to Whalum as he croons, "I won't tell you that it's going to be ok," over a haunting piano solo before underground favorite Big K.R.I.T. comes through with one of the verses of the year. Starting off with measured rhymes about the many deaths of black American's and the government's lies, K.R.I.T.'s voice escalates as the song goes on, turning into a primal raw as his emotions over flow with anger and sorrow.
The juxtaposition of Whatlum's solemn croon and K.R.I.T.'s fury filled raps is the perfect representation of how many in America feel about the continued killing of black American's.
This is more than just a protest song, this is real life.
