Why do we like this?

Matthew Evans of Philly, better known as Kenji, released his debut EP, I'll Think of Something Better, this past June. It's a mellow ride featuring heavy synth and plenty of soulful presence. 

He's bringing a refreshing twist to what we're finding in soul and neo-soul these days. His synth presence teamed with his ability to change from low and slow, to heavy melody, to hip-hop, keeps his presentation fresh, interesting, and never stale.

Kenji's latest single, "Surplus," is fantastic. It hits waves of lo-fi beats, soul-ridden melody, and Kenji's cool and calculated flow.  

Check out his EP, it's slick and it's totally unique.
