There is a lot riding on Kendrick Lamar's debut album good kid, m.A.A.d city. Many see him as the West Coast MC with the most potential since Snoop, a rebooted and updated version of the promise The Game once held but quickly beefed away. The Compton MC has the all mighty cosign of Dr. Dre -- he has an in-house label with Top Dawg Entertainment and he has a crew just as talented as he is, Black Hippy.
Just last night, Kendrick leaked "Compton," a larger-than-life colossus of a song produced by Just Blaze, a legend in his own right. This will only heighten the anticipation for Kendrick's debut LP that has been building steady anticipation after the first single "The Recipe" connected with purists and the mainstream alike, and even though the second offering "Swimming Pools (Drank)" was tepid at best, the young Cali MC has enough fire in his belly to burn through that.
Will this artist become one of the elite MCs that can garner checks and respect on equal terms? Or will he fizzle as quickly as he came?
