Over the weekend, Kanye West performed two special shows, playing his highly underrated 808's & Heartbreak in full at the Hollywood Bowl.
Unfortunately I live in another country, so attending was never going to happen, but it also seems a few more famous people than myself also missed out.
Portugal. The Man are big West fans but couldn't make the show either, as they were in Marfa playing the El Cosmico - Trans-Pescos Festival.
As this seems to be the week for covers (specifically Ryan Adam's taking on Taylor Swift's 1989), Portugal. The Man have recorded a cover of West's "Amazing," and it's, well, amazing.
The song still retains the sparse, almost mechanical feel of the original, but it's John Baldwin Gourley's vocals that really change this one. They slowly transform as the auto-tune and vocal effects get heavier and weirder, especially when he gets into Young Jeezy's verse, resulting in another strange yet delightful cover from Portugal. The Man.
