The internet can be a wonderful tool for finding new music. Early this year 19-year-old Kailee Morgue uploaded a clip of her singing a song on Instagram that amassed over 100,000 likes overnight.
Despite the rough recording the song known as "Medusa" became an underground phenomenon and Morgue was soon signed to Republic Records and hit the studio to record her first album.
The first single from her forthcoming album is a fresh studio recording of "Medusa." The sparse production allows the listener to focus on Morgue's gorgeous vocals, reminiscent of Lorde at her low key best. The catchy cry of "Medusa" will have you cooing along over the playful production. Of the track itself Morgue had this to say:
“I was messing around with sounds that weren’t acoustic. I wanted to create a story and paint a picture with words. I heard that first line in a movie and just had to incorporate it into that beat. It shows vulnerability and creates a different take on Medusa. In mythology, Medusa was cursed with snakes for hair and a hideous face over something that wasn’t her fault. It’s actually a tragic story, but people perceive her as a monster. So, she takes on the leadership role of the ‘broken’ in the song.”
Big things are ahead for Morgue and if you're liking this one be sure to follow her on Twitter where she is often uploading snippets of music and covers, including this take on Post Malone's "rockstar."
