K.Flay is the L.A. talent who has gained quite a lot of traction from countless remixes of her collaborative track "It's Strange" with Louis The Child. She's got a multi-genre approach to music, fusing hip-hop, lo-fi pop and indie alternative as well. Throw deep house producer Lincoln Jesser into the mix, and you've got a bona fide maelstrom of musical influences.
"FML" is K.Flay's latest single, boasting a catchy hook with decidedly darker subject matter than her typical music. It deals with the disparity of living out your dream, only to realize the negatives may outweigh the benefits (hence, FML).
Regardless of the intention of the lyrics, Lincoln Jesser speeds up the verses and adds a bass heavy drop, morphing it into a club-worthy track with serious dance potential. Jesser has recently been dropping frequent deep house gems lately, so I suggest keeping an eye on him.
You can check out the original or two other remixes of "FML" on K.Flay's SoundCloud, and keep up with Lincoln Jesser's work here.
