“Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search of our better selves?” - George Miller
This quote has stuck with me for some time, but never have I thought to answer it. Now, stirred by JVLY's "aporia," I find myself wondering where it is that we go.
Perhaps we turn to music - hoping to be overcome by a soundscape that alters our immediate reality. Perhaps we turn to love - hoping to be swept away by an ideal state.
When watching the self-shot video for "aporia," I get a sense that JVLY perhaps turns to both music and to love; the culmination of which, might just be this track. He explains: "I’d say that was the most satisfied I’ve ever been from finishing a song. I would’ve heard it like a hundred times while trying to wrap it up and I’m still not over it, so that's probably a good sign." The love of his musicianship is palpable.
He's 'still not over it,' and neither am I. With its Rhye-esque vocals and smooth R&B feel, I feel content to wander these wastelands with this as my soundtrack.
