It's been four years since we've heard anything from British singer songwriter Justene. After receiving acclaim for her debut EP, Love Life, the Leicester-born talent seemed to disappear, but she's back and looking to make an impact with sophomore EP, 2AM.
The four track release is steeped in 80s pop and current R&B trends, with Justene's influences ranging from gospel through to 90s pop. Justene had this to say about the EP;
'This record is about my inner most thoughts – conversations I have with myself but wish I could share out loud. My mind is preoccupied with a thousand other things during the day, so when it’s late at night and everything has quietened down, that’s when I’m able to process a lot of things I may be feeling but not had the time to acknowledge.'
First single and opening track "Chemistry" is a great introduction to what Justene is about, but for mine it's the EP's self-titled track that demands your attention. The electronic production has tribal feel to it as Justene coos the refrain, 'I just can't get you out of my mind.'
Do yourself a favour and give the 2AM EP a listen here.
