With opening bars that immediately call to mind the tones of Mumford & Sons balanced strikingly with euphoric gospel notes, Brooklyn-based duo Jus Post Bellum (Latin for "Justice After War") are following firmly in the footsteps of The Lumineers and Of Monsters and Men with their revivalist brand of folk.
"Gimme That Gun" is the recently released debut single from their forthcoming album, Oh July, a meticulously executed collection of Civil War-inspired tracks set for release on November 12. Led by Geoffrey Wilson's powerfully pure vocals, he and Hannah Jensen weave perfectly crafted harmonies and soft banjo strums into a piece that is both heart-rending and uplifting. If you like what you hear (and you happen to be on the right side of the Atlantic) Jus Post Bellum are playing a series of shows across the US throughout November.
