Icelandic rising star Júnrus Meyvant has delivered his debut album, Floating Harmonies, and it's a must-hear.
Across 12 tracks the talented singer songwriter delves into northern soul ("Beat Silent Need," "Might Backbone"), instrumental soundscapes ("Be A Man"), R&B flavors ("Neon Experience") and 60s folk-pop ("Domestic Grace Man").
Floating Harmonies is rich in musical textures, demonstrating Meyvant's eclectic music pallet and wistful vocals. Speaking on the albums themes, Meyvant had this to say:
"The theme and the core of the album is about time. Someone who is perfect today can be a failure tomorrow. So basically in the end what matters most is being good to your neighbor. With time, colors will decay."
One of my personal favorites from the album is "Signals." It's a slower tempo compared to many of the records track and features Meyvant's alluring vocals over rhythmic percussion and strings.
Floating Harmonies is a tremendous release from a talent you'll certainly be hearing more of over the coming years.
