Why do we like this?

Folk happens to be one of the most-saturated genres out there. Musicians have been pumping out songs in the genre for more than half a century now which means you have to do something absolutely incredible to stand out.

More often than not, that "something incredible" is either melody or voice. In this case, it's voice. And boy oh boy, does Julie Odell have a captivating voice. I've listened to this song about five times now, and with each new listen I find myself drawn in more and more. It really is quite moving.

Oh, and by-the-by, the New Orleans artist recorded this one in front of a live studio audience as part of a compilation album released by United Bakery Records. Here's a clip of that performance.
