Swedish singer songwriter Jose Gonzalez has taken some time out from his side project Junip to record some new material for the soundtrack to Ben Stiller's new flick, The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. Contributing three originals and two Junip tunes, "Step Out" is the first taste we've had of any new Gonzalez solo material. In a word, it's epic.
Penned by the always earnest Ryan Adams, "Step Out" is more in line with Gonzalez's work with Junip, although turned up to ten. Rollicking drums and a soaring kids' choir accompany Gonzalez during the rumbling first half before order is returned by Gonzalez and his acoustic guitar, which center stage and slowly builds towards a monumental climax with the choir in full force.
This is not your typical Gonzalez song, but retains enough intimacy of his previous work to tug at the heartstrings.
