Daniel Caesar's "Best Part" touched many of us a few years back, and as of February (lol) we can warmly welcome Jordan Rakei's stripped, piano cover into our lives. There are enormous Alicia Keys vibes emanating from this recording.
And, emanating from Alicia Keys, is my drunken karaoke rendition of her "If I Ain't Got You." Luckily "Best Part" hasn't reached the same level of mainstream appeal as Alicia's track did, otherwise I'd probably end up regularly defaming it in public, as I do with hers.
For anyone wondering what Maida Vale is, it's a building which hosts seven BBC recording studios. Studio MV1, the largest of which, can house up to 150 musicians. It's used to record orchestras, namely the BBC Symphony Orchestra, which Maida Vale is the official home of -- you know, for when they have competitive orchestra matches.
Anyways, Jordan is on top of his game, as per usual. This release came out in February already though, luckily that doesn't matter at all.
