It's been a long time in the making but Jordan Bratton has finally followed up 2013's mixtape The Grey Area and 2015's Youth EP with Driver's Ed. Bratton's second mixtape features 11 tracks self-produced by the New Yorker running the gauntlet of R&B, soul, pop and gospel.
The mixtape features top tunes like the fractured R&B brilliance of "Pieces," the soulful "Spaces" and the piano ballad "Family," but it's the original first single "Sunsets" that grabbed me from the get go. Referencing Kanye West and Kobe Bryant over the tranquil production, Bratton sings and raps, displaying his versatility as an artist and why he is one of the most underrated vocalists out there. Speaking on the mixtape, Jordan states:
“This whole time I had been writing songs and I never knew why I was making them because I couldn’t see right away how I related to them. It wasn’t until living with the music did I find out why they were made in the first place. [The mixtape] is here and I hope you enjoy it half as much as we enjoyed making it because it was the time of my life."
Driver's Ed is available to stream form all streaming platforms.
