Hailing from Gothenburg in Sweden, four-piece Jolympix have just released their third single, "Waiting."
It's not easy to stand out in the big, bad world of electro-pop, but these guys have got it. It's the quirk, it's the weirdness about this track that's got me. It's not your average tune, it's not trying to be super cool, or overly emotive or atmospheric. It's fun, it's sparky, it's a bit weird. It's refreshing as hell.
In particular, I love the brassy bass. It chugs along, accented by what sounds like a euphonium, adding a kind of festive, bouncy feel to the rhythm. It's the perfect backing to the cheerful melody, and the overall soundscape is diverse, and really intriguing.
If you dig "Waiting", check out previous singles "At the Shore" and "Let It Go". Jolympix will be releasing their eponymous debut EP next week on November 2.
