Why do we like this?
Can't say I'm the biggest Rihanna fan in the world, but that will not keep me from enjoying the hell out of this brand new Johnny Astro joint.
The last time Johnny Astro went in over a big name singer, the result was "Goodnight, America," which features my favorite Adele sample ever. "Athena," like so many of Astro's tracks, is incredibly sincere, which is great because I can't stand behind phony-ass rappers. When I listen to "Athena," I know the endgame of Astro's hustle is more than a big booty hoe.
Maybe it's because I'm a hopeless romantic, but "Athena" just hits all my sweet spots. The production is enchanting, as is Astro's ability to mix in those smooth R&B flourishes. Plus, I can't front on his flow, and the way that chorus punches me right in the feels.
There's just something in the way Astro's music moves.
