Why do we like this?

John Metcalfe's got one of those names that sticks in my head. Maybe it's because I've inadvertently listened to one of his arrangements, given he's worked with "A-list" acts like Peter Gabriel. Or maybe it's because his work is like treacle, sticky and refined.

Whatever it is, I think this track "Gold, Green" is a good example of that quality style -- mellow guitar licks against a down-to-earth beat. It's the first release off an upcoming album that'll drop in early June.

As Metcalfe explains, this is a "proper album, carefully crafted as a listening experience with a beginning, middle and end, in which no two tracks sound or feel the same." I imagine listening to it while gardening in the sun. Don't ask me why.

Metcalfe's album, The Appearance of Color, will be released by Real World Records. Check out their SoundCloud for more eclectic electronic.
