Why do we like this?

Jinja Safari are beings of the earth. Meeting at a beachside campfire in early 2010, from completely opposite ends of Australia, this talented duo is entertaining multitudes with their self-titled EP.

Jinja Safari have come a long way in a short period of time. They only played their first shows during May 2010, supporting

Miami Horror in Sydney. They next won the chance to perform at the Splendour in the Grass Festival alongside a myriad of indie legends including the Pixies, Grizzly Bear, the Strokes, and Passion Pit.

The band name comes from the tiny town of Jinja in Uganda, where Azon's grandmother lives; African vibes shine through in their music. Their sound is rather unique, in fact, they have invented their own genre, "forest rock." What is forest rock you ask? Listen and find out my friends.

If you don't have time to listen right now, I'll give you a rundown. The two multi-faceted frontmen, Marcus Azon and Cameron "Pepa" Knight, focus on rhythm and percussion which blends seamlessly with their harmonising talents. Forest rock is really quite easily recognized once you've heard it. It gives you the feeling of frolicking in the wild without a care.

Lead single "Peter Pan" would not be out of place in a remake of the classic tale, a beautifully presented track full of musical adventures. They really channel Never Never Land's Lost Boys in the whimsical video which couples perfectly with the track. "Forest Eyes" takes a more light-hearted approach, but with the same earthy feel nevertheless.

In summary, it's hard not to like these fun-loving cats, and I'm sure they'll be forest rocking our ears for years to come.
