Why do we like this?
It's winter over here in Australia, so I'm always looking for my music to add a little warmth (it's not really that cold, but you get my drift). Melbourne musician Jimmy Hawk has helped considerably over the past couple of days with his latest single, "Yana Homme." With three albums already out (one solo and two with The Endless Party), this is his comeback after spending most of last year touring the UK.
"Yana Homme" is like the musical equivalent of a bear hug. Varied guitar work (picked, slide, etc.) is the song's backbone, while there's also a clarinet sighting that adds so much to this track. Hawk's refreshingly gentle vocal tones soften things even more, making it difficult not to let your mind drift off to somewhere sunny.
Despite all this niceness, Hawk's music is not just easy-listening -- there's a richness to it which makes this more than just your regular summery jaunt. Whatever climate you're currently experiencing, "Yana Homme" is bound to increase its pleasantness.
