Jim James of My Morning Jacket has released new track "Throwback," in advance of his third solo album, Uniform Distortion. The singer has been busy this year, with this album coming just months after the release of his covers project, Tribute to 2.
The song, a reference to #throwbackthursday, is a commentary on how we admire our younger selves on social media while real-time runs out. The sound is a throwback in itself, with the album having been inspired by a '70s era magazine on sustainable living.
"Who knows how much time we really have?" James questions over the dreamy backing vocals of LA trio Dear Lemon Trees. Just before you start over-contemplate wasting your fleeting life on social media, James breaks out in laughter, ensuring we don't take it all too seriously.
Let's take Jame's advice and step away from our phones, but for a moment, and enjoy the release of Uniform Distortion on June 29th.
