After absolutely blowing me away with his first releases, Adelaide singer-songwriter
Jesse Davidson (whose single "
Flaws" we featured last year) dropped off the map somewhat. Given that he's a teenager, chances are he had more important things on his plate than keeping me entertained, but that's beside the point -- I needed more music! Over the past few months, the former Triple J Unearthed High finalist has slowly been filtering through news of fresh material until today, when this track turned up on my news feed.
With such anticipation, that first listen was almost nerve-wracking, but it didn't take long for my worry to fade. On the interestingly named "Big Bois Gotta Eat," Davidson has again created that beautiful, dreamy soundscape, this time with a touch more polish to it. I referenced his sound to Grizzly Bear last year, and that similarity has increased on this track. It's got that upbeat, playful sound which we heard so often on
Veckatimest, while also possessing those more expansive moments that feature throughout their music. For someone so young to be creating such a mature sound like this is truly incredible.
Before his debut EP drops next year, he'll be spending December supporting Canadian Mac Demarco on his Australia tour. Jesse Davidson is definitely a star in the making.
