On top of announcing that JEFF The Brotherhood has been dropped from Warner Bros (something that they are stoked about), the Nashville rockers released this huge track, "Black Cherry Pie."
Regarding the record label drop, JEFF The Brotherhood has decided to release their upcoming LP, Wasted On The Dream, on their own label, Infinity Cat. This is some good news, and the band seems very happy to be back on an independent label.
Back to the track. This song is classic JEFF, which means that it's full of big crunchy guitar riffs and hooks, gripping vocals, and sharp blasts of percussion. They also throw a twist into the song, pulling in the pan-flute prowess of Ian Anderson, which elevates this to another level. The use of the flute is measured, but when it comes in, it comes in like a rogue wave, on top of the already heavy seas of guitar. The result is a gripping psychedelic rock storm.
This song, lyrically, is pretty pessimistic. But it is still a song that begs to be blasted while driving down the road on a sunny day with the windows down, with everyone in the car singing along.
If you want to know more about the record, there is a great Q&A with Jake Orrall over on Stereogum. Wasted On The Dream is out March 24, on Infinity Cat.
