Sydney youngster JaysWays (Jay Cooper) is an interesting character, hard to pin down. The 17 year-old beatmaker has already been around for a couple of years, showing a hugely varied approach well beyond his years (check out his Bandcamp for proof).
Now, again showing off his diversity, he's produced a special double-sided release Epilogue - which also shows off his other project reesepushkin.
"Infinity" is definitely the more accessible of the split-singles, with Cooper's deft touch creating a soundscape that shifts from dreamy to beat-heavy. Despite the track's deviations, it always maintains its smooth undertone, and vocalist of the moment Nicole Millar's sultry tones prove to be the perfect compliment.
The other half of the release is "Scrunchie," which, while a lot more challenging, is just as potent. His darker, more experimental outlet is definitely worth your time, with both available as a Name Your Price download on the Yes Please Bandcamp.
Jay Cooper is the real deal no matter what shape his music takes, all you need to do is expect the unexpected.
