Why do we like this?
London-based artist JAKL has just released his debut single "The Jackal." Appropriate name, right?
A dark, piano-led number which tackles themes of love and loss, the track is awash with swirling oceans of reverb, rousing choruses and abstract hints of world and electronic music. The forlorn, lost nature of the vocal melds with an almost indie-pop/rock sensibility, to create a sound which has been on the sidelines lately, and in a genre box I can't quite seem to place.
JAKL’s emotionally raw music has already landed him a series of impressive gigs, such as an appearance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival (only his third show). Be sure to follow him on SoundCloud to keep up to date with more releases from his camp.
