Jennifer Paige Crush (Jai Paul Cover)

Jennifer Paige's "Crush" was a solid repeat on my mixtapes of yesteryear. I distinctly remember sitting shotgun in my mom's suburban, rocking out to this track on my Discman, hoping one day that I would be able to reference this song into my life somehow. It's been a minute since I've heard it, but when I saw that Jai Paul recorded an electronic-infused cover, I had to check it out.

Uploaded on an untitled Bandcamp album, this version of the 1998 chart topper is an interesting hybrid baby of pop, electronic and funk "“ a track perfect to get this next weekend started in a sexy-smooth fashion. Is that a touch of Prince-inspired falsetto I hear? Maybe a little D'Angelo soul? Whatever it may be, light a candle and give it a listen.
