I love sleeping with a song and then offering up words around it, but sometimes there’s just not time. Sometimes a song is so good and needs to be heard this very moment. Forgive my hastiness, and take the facts.
j.viewz is the moniker of Brooklyn’s songwriter, producer, and visual artist Jonathan Dagan. While this may be the first time you’re learning of the talented soul, he’s already been making ripples through the music industry.
In 2012, he was nominated for a Grammy for the package design on his album rivers and homes. The single off that album was nominated for MTV’s “Most Innovative Video” and a UK Music Video Award.
Recently, he’s been working on The DNA Project, an interactive and stunning website offering a unique perspective of his next album in real-time. His goal is to “redefine the way music is presented in the digital space.”
On the site, users can see the 10-month experience behind the album, and in some instances upload their own files to “influence the album’s DNA,” download components to be used in other songs, or download remix files to create additional versions.
In June, the DNA Project won the Cannes “Silver Lion Award” for design. To date, the project has won a handful of other web and design accolades. I assure you more are on the way.
The whole premise has my chest filled with light and butterflies. I implore you to read and explore j.viewz past and present work because frankly, I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
For this song, THIS SONG, j.viewz features the heavenly vocals of Rhye’s Mike Milosh. Milosh told NPR the song “was written in part as a message to his wife after a grueling year of touring.”
I also know one of my favorite audio crushes in life, Gotye, had his hands in this project. He posted today that the project started in his loungeroom with his Wurlitzer Sideman.
I have so many words to describe the romantic, dreamy, haze that is seeped into this remarkable track, but it will take too long for me to try to pair my attempt at poetry with real art.
