Why do we like this?
Over the last few months, Chris Adams has been a busy guy. He spearheaded the Chicago indie rock outfit Ivy Dye, and has been tirelessly working on the band's newest EP. Entitled Continuations, it picks up right where Adams had left off with the last EP.
Filled with the lo-fi goodness and electric guitar that made Lyme Times such a pleasure to listen to, Continuations carry on the torch of alternative rock. It has plenty of reminders of alternative rock's golden days of the 90s, with distorted rhythm guitar and reverbed out leads. Adams manages to take things a bit further this time around, adding to the production level of his previous recordings with a tighter feel on the tracks -- proving that all the extra time in the studio was worth it.
The first track, "Repetition," is definitely a stand-out, and the perfect way to kick off the EP. It begins with a bit of garage rock sound, but builds up to show some pop sensibility (not to mention Adams' laid back vocals balance out the track). By the time the synth hook plays out to some grooving drums at about 2 minutes in, you'll be hooked.
Ivy Dye proves that they've been able to find a balance between garage rock and indie pop, and the result is something that you should go download right now by following this link to their Bandcamp page.
