Why do we like this?
Nick Thorburn is back "” well, back at recording with Islands, after a Mister Heavenly tour this past year.
The Canadian avant-pop maestro will be releasing A Sleep & A Forgetting on February 14, but has let slip "This Is Not A Song" for your listening pleasure. A slowed down number, laden with a thick layer of piano and a slightly twangy guitar line, the track exemplifies Islands' grasp of the orchestral, which they seriously mastered on 2007's Arm's Way.
"This Is Not A Song" exercises more subtlety, though "” it sounds stripped down in comparison, and would be a perfect tune to hear on the radio driving late at night on an empty road. Ending with a shimmering crescendo of violins, I find myself pressing repeat, and am very interested in what else Islands has for us this time around.
