Island Fox is the solo project of Jess Bartlet, a London-based producer and mixer interested in exploring the otherworldly, genre-bending, and experimental. She's just put out Comrade, her newest EP of sonic tapestries.
"Nurture" is the opening track, featuring a barrage of arpeggiating synths and slithery vocals. Lo-fi percussion is a driving focal point. The spectrum of influences feels so wide, so rich. I'm getting hints of Visible Cloaks and Laurie Anderson, Imogen Heap and Panda Bear.
The artist includes "organic electronic" as part of her online bio, and it makes perfect sense. The swarming melodies and layered drums make for an almost tropical adventure.
