While Schoolboy Q has been winning all the praise this year with his exemplary debut, Oxymoron, it means fellow TDE member Isaiah Rashad has unfortunately been lost in the mix. His debut EP, Cilvia Demo, was released digitally in January, and has been one of the most slept on releases of 2014.
Introspective and nostalgic, Cilvia Demo stretches over 14 tracks of emotive rap thatincorporate the storytelling of Kendrick Lamar with the street smarts of Schoolboy Q and the emotional pull of Ab-Soul.
We've already posted numerous tracks from the album ("Ronnie Drake," "Brad Jordan"), but latest single, "Heavenly Father," might be the best yet. Abrooding and personal tale of suicide and self harm, with SZA lending her gorgeous vocals to the soothing hook, this is depressing music at its best.
While he might not have reached the heights of his fellow TDE crew, Rashad is a name you will be hearing more and more in the coming year.
