Everything about this post is cracking me up. It's not a joke. I'm not trolling you. I am earnestly sharing Iris DeMent's 1993 country-folk gem "Let the Mystery Be."
This post, likely my last of 2017, is a send off to HBO's The Leftovers, hands down my favorite TV show of the year. It featured DeMent's tune throughout the opening credits of season two, and brought it back for the series finale this past summer. I'm not much for Top 10 lists or best-of's, and so this post is my own little awkward hat tip to the year that was, and the content that made it special.
I love this ageless slice of Americana on its own, and as the perfect audial pairing for the show's cosmic, emotional opening credits sequence. I also love that SoundCloud says the track was posted "24 years ago." And ultimately I love that I can't think of a more timely song for my NYE playlist.
