Why do we like this?

Krisp is a four-piece band from Miami comprised of Juan Andres Ledesma (guitar/vocals), Alex Lopez (bass/vocals), Charlie Woods (synths/vocals), and Roberto Villar (drums). The band has been hard at work prepping some new material for upcoming shows and finishing up the mastering process of their new album, Sonic Monarch.

I interviewed Alex Lopez at a band practice session (where they let me jam on vocals with them before practice officially started!).

Krisp has not released any new music since 2012's EP, Mamani Vice. Any new music coming up?
Yes! Our album, Sonic Monarch, is finished in terms of recording, but we are in the process of mixing and mastering it.

What will be the lead single on Sonic Monarch?
Our single will be "167." It's going ready for release soon.

How did "167" come together?
We practicing in The Armory Studios in Wynwood, Miami; I was playing a Joy Division bass line. I got my inspiration from that, so I started jamming to that base line, and then everyone put their instruments to it. It was really organic, and came together really quickly

How would you define your style of music?
On our first EP, Mamani Vice, we used a lot of synths and electric drums. For the new material on LP, Sonic Monarch, it's more organic, because its instrument-driven. We're still using Charlie Wood's synths, but not Juan's or mine. We've got a funk/indie/electronic style going -- we were discussing it ourselves recently and realized we have a very unique sound, which is pretty cool.

How do you think your sound represents Miami?
I think we represent it very well because Miami is a multinational city with different cultures. Our music represents that because it's not just garage rock, EDM, electronic music, or funk. It's kind of just a melting point of all those things. We represent the city because we're a blend of all our favorite types of music. We really enjoy doing indie, electronica, and music that has 60s and 70s vibes.

Any live shows coming up ?
We have not played live together in over six months, but we have four shows planned in near future. The first one is at the Stache in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night September 18th, we're playing at 10 PM sharp. We're also playing September 26th at Sweat Records in Miami. We doing three shows to figure out how crowd reacts to new material, because we want to be sharp for our performance at III Points music art & technology festival on Saturday October 11.

What's your favorite song to perform live?
"167," because it's very instrument driven, with high BPM. For me, it is not hard song to play, so bounce around a bit and have fun with it.
