Indian Summer has just dropped their latest single "Loveweights" featuring vocalist Shaqdi. Their best work to date in my opinion, it's been a steady rise for the Sydney duo since their first EP last year.
Anyone who's followed my posts this year knows that I'm a sucker for sugary female vocals and a mix of electronic with melodic instruments -- so there's a lot to love about this track.
Opening with a beautiful piano melody and faint vocals, the atmosphere is delicate, almost crystalline. The dulcet tones are punctured by heavy synths throughout, but Shaqdi's candied, almost childlike falsetto keep the vibes dainty and gentle.
I really like how the beat almost disappears among the softer sections, without losing control for a second. It really allows the melodic layers to shine through, and makes the blaring synths all the more powerful.
Head to their SoundCloud to check out a couple remixes of "Loveweights," too.
